Quick Thoughts: South Park Episode 227 (Jewpacabra)

After a couple stinkers, it’s nice to see that South Park was able to pull out something more enjoyable without coming off as too much of a pop culture satire.  Just the name of the creature and episode “Jewpacabra” is almost a guarantee that the episode should offer something better than most of the season.  Granted, this isn’t to say it’s a classic by any stretch, but it does mean we have a far more enjoyable slice of a series which has long since gone past its prime.  Also, did a South Park episode seriously end on a legitimately happy note (in celebration of a holiday no less)?

Quick Impressions: Episode 226 (Faith Hilling)

Season 16 of South Park continues to become forgettable and little more than a toss-away in the meme-focused episode Faith Hilling.  The pop culture satire has hit an overbearing note that really says all it needs to in the first few minutes.  It’s still nonsensical like always, but anyone who missed out needn’t worry about hunting down this week’s offering.

Quick Thoughts: South Park Episode 225 (Cash for Gold)

South Park continues its long-lasting, finger pointing antics in a bit of a brief commentary on the whole jewelry and gold business with this week’s episode.  The laughs can still come, but it’s far from a guarantee.  There’s ambition to the episode, but it all feels too short-lived for the its own good.  Ultimately, the episode is just another ripple in the show’s large pond.

Quick Thoughts: South Park Episode 224 (Reverse Cowgirl)

The last season of South Park was a bit of a rough ride, going through many of the expected obscurities with a few serious moments and more than a handful of negligible moments.  But now we’ve entered season 16 of the often raunchy show which, thankfully (and like a proper season opener), brought enough laughs and jaw-droppers to keep anticipation for the rest of the season up.  You could call this episode (Reverse Cowgirl) one of the ultimate spins on the term “toilet humor.”  And because this is satire, it wouldn’t be complete without references to society and culture.  Some of it’s arbitrary, but at this point, you either expect or watch South Park for that exact reason.
