Quote Review: The Dictator (2012)

“What sorcery is this?”

At this point, Sacha Baron Cohen’s antics have become exactly what one expects and looks for when he’s involved.  Nothing is held back as any and all subtlety is tossed out even before the opening credits roll.  Admittedly, The Dictator doesn’t hold a finger to Borat, but viewers should get enough of what they’re looking for.  Just don’t expect to be rolling around the seats every five seconds.

Quote Review: 50/50 (2011)

“You can’t change your situation. The only thing that you can change is how you choose to deal with it.”

50/50 strums through generally dramatic but occasionally humorous moments like a power ballad.  Things smoothly sways until hitting an undertoned climax that still leaves an impression.  There’s no thick or artificial epiphany spat out, just a fairly realistic and modest depiction of a young adult and those around him dealing with his condition.

Quote Review: Fly Away Home (1996)

“We’re on the edge, my dear.”

A film that’s gone mostly unnoticed, which is a bit of a shame, even with a few parts bringing it down.  But the final act has some of the most mesmerizing and beautiful directing and cinematography, especially given its age. By the end it’s hard not to feel moved and inspired by what is, ultimately, a flawed but wonderfully crafted film.
